ARDHI UNIVERSITY

As a relatively new academic unit in the School, the department currently offers two undergraduate programmes namely: Bachelor of Arts in Economics (BAE) and Bachelor of Arts in Community and Development Studies (BACDS).

Bachelor of Arts in Economics (BAE)

Expected learning outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of this programme, candidates are expected to have acquired knowledge, skills and ability to:

• Demonstrate understanding of the fundamentals/principles of economics and economic theory as well as apply basic tools of economic analysis in making informed decisions in their daily functions.
• Demonstrate the ability to monitor, understand and critically analyze pertinent economic issues and derive implications in the national and global development dynamics.
• Demonstrate the ability to undertake basic research for knowledge generation and present the results using appropriate economic concepts and theories.
• Identify, evaluate and integrate information on various economics-related aspects, and ultimately synthesize and communicate the answers persuasively and coherently to intended end-users.
• Use interpersonal skills to relate to, and collaborate effectively with a broad-spectrum of stakeholders

Entry qualifications

i) Direct entry (Form VI) Qualification
Two principal passes in the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Advanced Mathematics, Economics, Geography, History, Commerce or Accountancy. One of the principal passes must be Economics. In addition, an applicant must have at least a subsidiary pass in Advanced Mathematics at A-Level or at least “D” grade in Mathematics at O-Level.

ii) Equivalent Qualifications
Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Business Studies or Community Economic Development with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Bachelor of Arts in Community and Development Studies (BACDS)

Expected learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this programme, candidates are expected to have acquired knowledge, skills and ability to:

• Comprehend social and community development theories and principles. 
• Demonstrate the understanding and use of qualitative and quantitative methods for analyzing pertinent social and community development issues.
• Understand of research process as an integral scientific method of inquiry.
• Understand governance aspects related to institutions and community development.

Direct entry (Form VI) Qualification
Two principal passes in the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Advanced Mathematics, Geography, Economics, History, Kiswahili, English Language, Commerce, Accountancy, Agriculture or Nutrition. In addition, an applicant must have at least a subsidiary pass in Advanced Mathematics at ALevel or at least “D” grade in Mathematics at O-Level.

ii) Equivalent Qualifications
Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Community Development, Rural Development, Agriculture Extension with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0. In addition, an applicant must have three credits or five passes at OLevel.
