Dar es Salaam, 14/09/2023 - A unique opportunity for those interested in Geographic Information System (GIS). This summer school aims to equip participants with essential knowledge and advanced methods in GIS using the powerful open-source programming language, R.
R is widely recognized for its capabilities in statistical data analysis and graphical representation. In its current version, it can efficiently handle various analytical tasks within a geographic information system context.
The comprehensive summer school program includes:

1. Introduction to R and RStudio: Get acquainted with the R programming environment.
2. Data manipulation with R and statistical methods with RSpatial Data Analysis: Learn to read and analyze spatial data.
3. Geoinformation Systems: Apply basic methods of GIS.
4. Classification Methods: Explore methods for data classification.
5. Spatial Data Visualization: Learn how to create compelling visual representations.
6. Diagram and Thematic Map Creation: Discover techniques for outputting diagrams and thematic maps.

During the program participants will have hands-on experience using both administrative data and data from Open Street Map (OSM) of Dar es Salaam. Additionally, an exciting excursion will provide an opportunity to witness current urban planning challenges firsthand.
This 8-day summer school is organized in collaboration with Humboldt University of Berlin and Berliner Hochschule für Technik (University of Applied Sciences, BHT) through the EAGER Trans-Net, with support from Erasmus+
