East African university students are argued to play crucial role in driving development of the region and actively promote peace and harmony among communities in East African Countries.
The remark given by the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. James Mdoe, while representing Minister for Education Science and Technology in official inauguration of the two days East African University students’ debate, taking place at Ardhi University today.
Prof Mdoe emphasized that peace and harmony are fostered by the existence of democracy., henceforth encouraged youth to promote democracy in each country they reside in and actively engage in the political processes including participating in elections held in the respective countries.
While giving welcoming remarks, the vice Chancellor for Ardhi University (ARU) Prof. Evaristo Liwa stated that, the two days debate strike to the core of ARU’s academic responsibilities which includes imparting knowledge, and deepen their understanding of the socio political dynamic shaping the world and the East African Region.
Prof. Liwa also encouraged participants of the debate to approach the discussion with open mind, a spirit of collaboration and commitment towards seeking innovative solutions to region’s challenges.
The two-days debate includes university students from Kenya, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan and host country United Republic of Tanzania.
